Wednesday, April 25 is International Guide Dog Day, a day that celebrates the life-changing contribution Guide Dogs make to blind and visually impaired individuals and their families.
The day also recognizes the guide dog schools, employees and volunteers committed to breeding, raising and training guide dogs. There are 95 guide dog schools around the world in 25 countries that are members of the International Guide Dog Federation (IGDF). There are just three IGDF schools in Canada, including BC & Alberta Guide Dogs.
Here are the comments of MLA Linda Reid speaking about International Guide Dog Day and BC & Alberta Guide Dogs in the provincial legislature.
In the video below, BC & Alberta Guide Dog CEO Bill Thornton and Guide Dog team Rory and Rosamund van Leeuwen are interviewed about International Guide Dog Day and public etiquette when dealing with a Guide Dog team.
