BC & Alberta Guide Dogs Official Opening

A new home for our puppies and a brighter future for the people who depend on them.

On Friday, June 19, 2026, BC & Alberta Guide Dogs officially opened the Victor and Anna Kern Breeding & Training Centre in Delta, B.C. The 10,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility is the first of its kind in Western Canada and marks a major milestone in our mission to provide professionally trained Guide and Service Dogs across British Columbia and Alberta.

Building for the Future

In our first 30 years, more than 400 Guide and Service Dogs have graduated from our programs, supporting people in more than 75 communities across B.C. and Alberta. Today, more than 220 active teams are supported across the two provinces.

Our new centre brings specialized breeding, puppy care and training spaces together under one roof, allowing us to increase our capacity and prepare more dogs for their future careers. This means more opportunities to support people who are blind or have low vision, children with autism and their families, and Veterans and First Responders living with an Operational Stress Injury (OSI).

Celebrating Our Community

We were honoured to welcome Wendy Cocchia, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, and Delta MP Jill McKnight to celebrate this milestone alongside our staff, donors, volunteers and community partners.

The celebration included guest speakers, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, the unveiling of our donor wall, building tours and demonstrations.

The project was made possible through years of planning and generous community support. Our capital fundraising campaign launched in May 2024, construction began that September, and the facility was completed in 2026. The Government of Canada also contributed $2.7 million through its Enabling Accessibility Fund.

The Next Chapter Begins

As we celebrate 30 years of raising and training Guide and Service Dogs, this new centre provides an important foundation for the future. Its impact will be seen in the puppies who begin their journeys here and the people they will go on to support.

Thank you to everyone who helped bring this vision to life. Together, we’re building a future with more possibilities, one puppy and one partnership at a time.
